A Very Broadway Valentine – 2018

Every year, we like to make sure that theater fans have a way to spend time with their loved ones without ignoring their first, true love, the theater. Here is our 2018 list of 14 theatrical twists to classic date-night activities. Have a Happy and Theatrical (but hopefully nothing too dramatic) Valentines Day!

(1) Sweets with your Sweet

Off-Broadway’s Award Winning Sweeney Todd is helping loved ones celebrate V Day by adding cake and sparkling rosé to its pre-show menue which usually consists only of pies and mash. The Valentine’s Day menu is available for all eight shows February 13 to February 18.

(2) Get Kinky

Head to the Tony Award winning musical, Kinky Boots to feel the joy this Valentine’s Day. Kinky Boots now stars Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters and Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix.

(3) Make an Appointment with a Matchmaker

Bernadette Peters Makes her triumphant return to Broadway this season, stepping into the shoes of every theater goers favorite matchmaker, Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly!

(4) Venture (54) Below the Belt

Broadway’s supper club, 54 Bellow, presents a night of romantic Broadway tunes sung by Broadway’s favorite couples in “A Very Broadway Valentine’s Day” (wonder where they got the name from…). The concert will play two performances Wednesday night – at 7:00pm and at 9:30pm. Tickets start at $40 and can be purchased here.

(5) Plan an Island Gettaway

Broadway performances of Escape to Margaritaville begin on February 16th. Grab tickets to the island gettaway you’ve always wanted without leaving Manhattan. Escape to Margaritaville is the new musical comedy from music’s favorite storyteller, Jimmy Buffett, and the Tony Award-winning director of Come From Away, Christopher Ashley.

(6) Invite a Third

Head over to the Davenport Theatre for Afterglow, a play about two married men who invite a third lover into their lives.

(7) Dirty Talk

Get filthy at the Highline Ballroom where Shelly “The Singing Siren” Watson will host a “Filthy Gorgeous Burlesque Valentines Spectacular!” The show starts at 8:00pm on Wednesday and tickets start at $30.

(8) Play it by Ear

Head over to the Peoples Improv Theater (the PIT) for one of their four Valentine’s Day themed shows this Wednesday:

(9) Go on Tinder

Get off your phone though and head to Brooklyn for Tinder LIVE with Lane Moore! This critically acclaimed comedic show will play on February 14th at 8:00pm.

(10) Roses are a Girl’s Best Friend

If you’re theatrically inclined lover is also a Deadhead, this is the date night activity for you. Red Roses, Green Gold features the songs of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter and plays the Minetta Lane Theatre until February 18th.

(11) Masquerade

Nope, we’re not talking about Phantom this year. Company XIV is hosting a Venetian Valentine Grand Masquerade which promises a night of live music, dance, burlesque and immersive theater.

(12) Pub Crawl

Joe’s Pub brings you “Brown Girls Burlesque & Nucomme: Dirty Honey Shake – A Love Supreme” this Valentine’s Day. Doors at 9:00pm, show at 9:30pm. Tickets are available at the door for $30 or online here for $25.

(13) Go Clubbing

Head to the hottest new club in NYC, Club Cumming, where they promise surprise performances all night long at their first ever Club Cumming Valentines Day Ball.

(14) Sing a Duet

This year we’re bringing you another romantic playlist to help you set the mood right this Valentine’s Day. This year’s playlist features all of our favorite Broadway duets, so that you and your loved one can sing along together!

Don’t forget to bring flowers, chocolates and a card for your date tomorrow night. Go get ’em tiger!
