Shows to Look Out For This Fall

New York is set to see some huge stars take the stage this fall in highly anticipated new productions and revivals. The following four shows are likely to be a hot ticket – so get your tickets now to avoid becoming green with envy.

THE FRONT PAGE – The star-studded revival of the 1928 play, The Front Page, chronicles a group of newspaper journalists in Chicago. The cast includes Nathan Lane (The Producers), John Slattery (“Mad Men”), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski) and Holland Taylor (The Truman Show) just to name a few.

 

dear-evan-hansenDEAR EVAN HANSEN – The musical-to-beat this season is Dear Evan Hansen, about a high school outsider (Ben Platt, of Pitch Perfect) who desperately tries to find a way to fit in. It received rave reviews in its two previous productions – one at Washington D.C.’s Arena Stage, and the other off-Broadway at Second Stage.

 

othello-blogOTHELLO – Off-Broadway will see a production of Shakespeare’s Othello at the New York Theater Workshop (where Bowie’s Lazarus premiered last year). The production stars David Oyelowo (Selma) as Othello, and Daniel Craig (James Bond) as Iago. The production is directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold (Fun Home).

 

dead-poets-societyDEAD POETS SOCIETY – Also Off-Broadway this fall is the world premier of the stage adaptation of Dead Poets Society at Classic Stage Company. The 1989 Robin Williams film is being adapted for the stage by the movie’s original screenwriter, Tom Schulman, who won an Academy Award for the screenplay. It will be directed by John Doyle (The Color Purple) and will star Jason Sudeikis (“Saturday Night Live”) in the role originated by Robin Williams.
