Ranking the 2017 Tony Awards Pundits

The Tony Race is over. Let’s take a look at how we did, and who made it on the list of 2017’s top Tony Pundits.

We are pleased to announce that our predictions were the most accurate of any theater publication for the third year in a row!

This year, I came in third behind a tied first place. My producing partner, Chris Schembra, who tied me for first last year, correctly guessed 20 of the 24 categories, putting him at the top of the pack this year. He is joined by TimeOut NY’s Adam Feldman.

Congrats to Chris.

This year, there were three categories that every expert missed. Those were: Featured actor in a Play which went to Michael Aranov over the predicted Danny DeVito, Director of a Musical which went to Chris Ashley over the frontrunners Michael Greif and Rachel Chavkin, and Best Orchestrations went to Alex Lacamoire instead of frontrunners Dave Malloy and Larry Hochman.

Chris only missed one additional category – Costume Design of a Musical. I missed Featured Actress in a Musical and Director of a Play.

Note with these rankings that not all of these experts published predictions for all 24 categories. To accommodate for this, our rankings are weighted by the total number of categories each expert made predictions for.
